Weaverville Mountainside Modern Retreat

The Weaverville project is a completely different home from the 1980’s era house we started with.  This was a take-down-to-the-studs, jack-hammer the foundation, move dirt, major whole house renovation along with building out new square footage to create a modern mountain retreat.   A re-envisioned, reverse floor plan moved the main living areas to the full walkout lower level.  The home is on a slope that this allowed the homeowners to take advantage of the rebuilt and expanded patio, expanded outdoor living with covered porch complete with a fireplace and lounge area, and the new outdoor kitchen.  From the patio there are expansive, long range mountain views.

In the new lower level, the main living space features a gourmet kitchen with a custom hood vent with a matte zinc finish and brass trim detail.  The backsplash behind the gas range was custom designed to highlight the hood vent.  A tower refrigerator and freezer flank the range on either side.  A breakfast nook on one end of the kitchen mirrors a cozy sitting area on the other end.  A butler’s pantry is tucked in behind the new kitchen.  The butler’s pantry features a built-in coffee station and a built-in wine station.  A formal living room is also on this new lower level, as well as a sitting room/media room.   New flooring throughout unifies the spaces and was an opportunity to add in pattern through a herringbone  design that defines the individual zones.

The home site was extremely sloped.  To execute on the vision for the remodel, the entire site needed to be regraded, all while maintaining the stability of the existing structure.  New, poured concrete retaining walls allowed for the construction of the new patio and outdoor living space.  Leveling out the grade we were make several additions to the home including a new master bathroom that expanded the new main suite that is on the upper level, but at grade with the front of the house.
